Tournament Course - Spectator Enhancments/Course Changes

This summer the Houston Golf Association (HGA) put forth a large amount of capital funds to create some spectator improvements/course changes for the 2013 SHO and beyond.  With the event’s popularity increasing every year along with the amount of spectators some change was needed around the finishing holes to allow more fans to see the action and further enjoy the experience.   Read more about the changes here...

Member Divot Party

Company Walking Challenge

In the month of July, the company that manages and owns our facility, Redstone Companies, came up with a club challenge for all of its properties and offices. The Hospitality Division, within Redstone Companies, includes 4 multi course golf properties, health and fitness clubs, and hotels. The challenge was a walking challenge, measured by pedometer that was given to anyone that wanted to try and was designed to bring awareness to fitness and health in the workplace. I knew our guys had a slight advantage over the rest, but I did not know we would be as far ahead as we ended up......

Bad Effects of Rainfall on Summer Play - Member Course

Well, I never thought we would be back in one of these rainy periods ever again after last year’s continued drought, but here we are. With nearly 4.5” of rain over the last 11 days, and rain on 9 out of those 11 days, we are in one of the rainiest periods we have had since July 2010. The rain is much needed and is doing wonders for growing in the Tournament Course at a rapid pace. It is also filling up the ponds and helping to reduce our water consumption. There are some minor things that I would like to mention here that are presenting some challenges regarding how the course plays.

Tournament Course Transition Update - Mid June

#13 fairway view - typical thin areas result that need added time for recoveryThere are many around town that are familiar with the ups and downs of having a golf course that is overseeded every year and what it can look like during the summer months. Many of you also know that we normally close down the course for a month or so to do some recovery work. There are still many that don’t have experience with it, as it is not something that is done that much anymore in the state of Texas. You get the extreme highs of an awesome playing surface for cooler months, but you also have to be ready for the recovery in summer.
